RACH RUNS 50km FOR WALK+TALK

The Challenge:

On 12th April 2025, I am aiming to run my first official Ultra Race – the Windsor Easter 50k Ultra Challenge.  It will be the longest official race I have ever entered; and it will certainly be the first time I have made an outright, public commitment to running an ultra.

Why?

A Personal Challenge

Those who know me will be more than aware that I run.

However, they will also know I find it impossible to disclose ‘how far’ I intend to run; to anyone - including myself.

Public commitment to 50k feels as much of a challenge as the distance itself;  both fill me with an anticipation of dread and discomfort in equal measure.

Fundraising to combat Loneliness

Loneliness, and a void in social connection, is approaching epidemic levels.   The World Health Organisation has declared loneliness as a global public health threat, and research increasingly points to the fact that "loneliness and social isolation are tightly linked to poor health outcomes."

Our charity, The Allegr Foundation, was established to address this trend of fractured social connection; and our flagship programme, Walk+Talk tackles this head on.

It’s a simple, but hugely impactful programme that gets people active, talking and engaged -  already proving itself to be successful in positively impacting participants’ mental and physical health and happiness, through regular activity and interaction.

We have established 10 Community Walk+Talk projects in the last 2 years - across Bristol, West London and Cardiff. To really have the impact we want, Walk+Talk needs to be duplicated and accessible across the UK.  But this needs some significant fundraising help to resource that growth.

Thank you so much for any contribution to help this pressing cause, and a nation’s health, through connection.

What does the charity do?

Centred around our  ‘Health through Connection’ mantra - we build activity programmes, fostering human connection, to improve wellbeing.

If I donate to your fundraiser, what will my donation support?

Our flagship programme is Walk+Talk.  We run this in the community, and for the military veterans.  It’s a simple and effective project, that gets people active, engaged and talking. The walks accommodate absolutely everyone - and with the help of social prescribing, also offer effective signposting support to those who are especially isolated and lonely - intercepting them before potential crisis.

The formula may be simple - but its impact is proving itself very positive and significant.

We are now poised to do more - to scale the Walk+Talk programme and its impact across the UK.  And hence, we are now fundraising to specifically support this development.

The money raised goes specifically to fund the running costs for this national roll out - so this programme can be duplicated to reach more towns and cities, more communities and more people.

Thank-you for any donation you are kind enough to offer
